The things that you said // Cordelia & Fran

She had done it again, just like she always would now. They were so intertwined that it was impossible to determine where she ended and he began, her whole identity was changed. Just as there was no bringing back what once was Amelia, there was no bringing back what once was Doyle. She only knew how to be Francis now, an inexplicable mix of the two.

“I did,” she relented, her voice giving her away. Nodding in resigned acknowledgement of her error, Fran grew more solemn. “I’m sorry, I won’t…do that anymore.” Her eyes lingered on the former Sunnydale beauty, coming to LA for a brighter future, but all she ever seemed to find was more loss. It wasn’t fair, and every bit of Fran’s heart wanted to make it right again. Nature needed balance, there were some rules, some deaths that were not meant to be undone. Fran paid the price for trying.

“No!” Cordelia blurted, shaking her head. The last thing she wanted was to make Fran feel bad for something that was practically out of her control.– something that she herself was probably still just getting used to. Sure, this wasn’t easy for Cordelia, but it must be so much harder to be the one with two people inside constantly your head. She couldn’t even begin to imagine what it was like.

In a pitiful attempt to ease the tension she had managed to build between them, Cordelia allowed the corners of her lips to pull upward to form a ghost of a smile. "No, it’s okay. You can call me that. I’m just… still not used to it, you know?“ she admitted softly. Logically, Cordelia understood that, somehow, there was a piece of Doyle in Amelia– a piece that made her Francis– but it was still so hard to truly wrap her head around that fact. She dropped her gaze to her fidgeting hands, unable to meet Fran’s dispirited eyes for any longer.
