Nodding, Willow dutifully sat still in the chair, watching Cordelia sweep up the glass as the woman had put her in timeout. Swaying her sneakered feet together, she played with her fingers in her lap. There was a small stain on her white shirt from where she had spilled some of her juice earlier, but she had largely forgotten it by now.
“I’m sorry I broke the glass, Mommy…” Willow said, her bottom lip quivering as she sat still in the chair. “Please don’t hate me…”
After dumping the last of the glass into the garbage, Cordelia refocused her attention on the child sitting in the chair. “Oh, Willow, I don’t hate you.” she murmured, running a soothing hand through the girl’s long red hair.
Noticing the stain on Willow’s shirt, Cordelia smiled slightly. “Let’s get you changed, okay? And then it’s bed time for you,” she said, holding out her hand for Willow.
